From 2007 – 2009, E.Vironment assisted ConocoPhillips conduct Process Safety/Mechanical Integrity audits at all of their refineries worldwide. Two of E.Vironment's world-class Process Safety consultants plus an administrative assistant served on the ConocoPhillips team conducting these audits.
The FTC required Conoco to divest its Denver refinery and associated marketing & transportation, crude oil supply and retail assets prior to the announced merger with Phillips Petroleum. E.Vironment conducted the EHS due diligence for this divestiture and assisted Conoco answer questions of prospective buyers.
E.Vironment facilitated development of an integrated EHS management system for the combined Anadarko/Kerr McGee/Western organization, following their merger. This included using our Pathfinder Matrix® process to work with the Executive Leadership Team on setting the future EHS direction for the company. We subsequently facilitated development of the implementation plan, gap analysis tool, and audit protocols.
Anadarko used our Pathfinder Matrix® process to facilitate senior management discussion and gain consensus on where the company should strategically position itself in terms of Corporate Social Responsibility.
E.Vironment supported the assessment and modification, where needed, of a regional EHS management system to ensure compliance with the requirements of recent BOEMRE regulations and API's Recommended Practice 75.
E.Vironment conducted a comprehensive five-year review of the Environmental Management System (EMS) for Enbridge Liquid Pipelines business unit. We also conducted compliance audits of nine operating facilities across three Canadian Provinces and several U.S. states and at eight Spearhead Pipeline facilities.
E.Vironment provided lead auditor training for LyondellBasell including these types of auditing disciplines: OE (Operational Excellence), Logistics, Internal Audit, and Quality (ISO 9000). In addition to the “hard” auditing skills, the training included organizational skills such as conflict resolution.
E.Vironment conducted EHS audits at all of HollyFrontier's refineries, asphalt plants, trucking operations and pipeline assets across six states. We also worked with the EHS Performance Improvement Team to establish EHS goals for the company, interviewed the company's senior Leadership Team and drafted the EHS Management System framework.
We developed EHS management system audit protocols and supported HollyFrontier's RCRA program, including the development of new procedures to cost-effectively manage solid waste.
E.Vironment assisted in the development of a set of Corporate Environmental Metrics for HollyFrontier to drive improved environmental performance.
From 2004 – 2009, E.Vironment assisted Marathon Oil manage its HES Management System (MS) Auditing Program. This included providing the Team Leader and additional auditors on all MS audits, conducting auditor training for Marathon's guest auditors, and advising on overall Audit Program management. These audits are conducted around the world. E.Vironment has also led HES compliance audits at Marathon's U.S. facilities.
We conducted EHS and security assessments in support of acquisition and divestiture activities related to refinery, pipeline and terminal assets.
In late 2004, BP announced it planned to IPO the bulk of its chemicals division, including the Lavera, France and Grangemouth, UK refineries. The entity was named Innovene. For the next year E.Vironment worked with the Innovene HSSE Leadership Team on a major effort encompassing all areas of HSSE planning and performance for their chemical plants, refineries and related operations around the globe. This effort included due diligence, facilitating development and pilot testing of their global risk management process and their HSSE management system, and interviewing the Tier 1 Leadership Team. In 2006 Innovene was acquired by Ineos.
E.Vironment managed the due diligence effort on Lubrizol's acquisition of Noveon. Subsequent to closing, we worked with the deal team as they considered divestment strategy. We helped to quickly get a handle on the EHS condition of the acquired assets and consider which assets might be divested and what the divestment strategy should be from the EHS perspective.
E.Vironment assisted AMPCO with the design and implementation of an integrated environmental, health and safety management system for their operations in Equatorial Guinea. The assignment included working with the company management team to develop work practices and procedures for effectively carrying out their desired requirements. The integrated management system also includes aspects of mechanical integrity, process safety and employee competency assurance.
E.Vironment assisted BP Alaska with the design and delivery of EHS auditing practices. Our work included conducting EHS auditor training and facilitating learning activities in the field during "live" audits.
E.Vironment assisted EnCana in conducting EHS management systems audits across the company. Our staff assisted EnCana in designing the audit program when initially developed in 2003.
E.Vironment also assisted EnCana with the re-design and implementation of its corporate EHS management system. The system follows state-of-the-art framework design and implementation concepts that E.Vironment consultants have been developing for many years.
E.Vironment led the implementation of Valero's Integrated Management System.
E.Vironment staff led development & implementation of Sunoco's Operating Excellence management system.
We asssisted major Sunoco Contracting companies with the evaluation and certification of their respective EHS management systems to meet certain EHS MS criteria established by Sunoco.
E.Vironment assisted Cenovus with the design and implementation of an Integrated Management System for driving improved performance and consistency in work activities across the company. We worked with several business units to identify and close gaps in the IMS.
E.Vironment assisted AT&T with the design and execution of specific environmental work practices across the U.S. to improve consistency and delivery of desired outcomes.
For over ten years E.Vironment has assisted BASF with strategic air and waste permitting, planning, and implementation of requirements at the company's Texas facilities. We have successfully negotiated air permits that provide maximum operating flexibility while maintaining environmental protection.
Assisted BASF with improving Crontractor Safety Management performance. Interviewed management, supervisors and front line employees of several major contractors to identify improvement opportunities.
E.Vironment has partnered with OXEA Corporation since shortly after its inception to provide strategic waste permitting, planning and implementation of requirements for compliance.
E.Vironment facilitated development of an HSE management system, supporting documented work processes, and audit protocols.
E.Vironment was asked to prepare a paper addressing environmental management systems (EMS) for Secretary of Energy Steven Chu's National Petroleum Council's North American Resource Update project. Two of our consultants that are considered leading edge EMS thinkers wrote this paper entitled Environmental Management Systems - Key Issues on Design, Value & Implementation.
E.Vironment led a CHK Audit Leadership Team in developing the company's EHS Auditing Program and preparing audit protocols. We trained Guest Auditors and led three Pilot Audits.
E.Vironment conducted a Corporate Governance Review and advised Chesapeake management on strategic changes which would enhance governance.
E.Vironment has led corporate and District environmental audits at Kiewit facilities & projects across the U.S., conducted auditor training for Kiewit auditors and conducted reviews of District Vendors. E.Vironment advises Kiewit on regulatory and operational issues across its businesses.
E.Vironment Managing Partner Paul Pizzi led the Dow / Union Carbide EHS Integration Team for eight months in advance of the merger of these two chemical company giants. The team considered synergies, decided on a common EHS management system, incorporated global best practices, designed the combined EHS function and identified key Day One activities.
Dow has participated on several major benchmarking studies facilitated by the E.Vironment team, and is currently a member of E.Vironment’s Global Issues Forum and Process Safety Issues Forum.
E.Vironment provided EHS assistance to CPChem's Zhangjiagang chemical plant in China, including responding to a governmental Safety Standardization audit.
Following the merger of International Power and GDF Suez North America, E.Vironment facilitated development of an environmental management system to meet the needs of the integrated North American enterprise.
We assisted HESS in developing and implementing an Operations Integrity Assessment Program that was designed to assure that high risk aspects of facility operations are maintained within safe operating envelopes. We led three pilot assessments for the OIA Program.
We supported the multi-media EH&S and DOT audit of HESS's North Dakota Bakken development, which is a strategic asset producing more than 75,000 BBLs/day of oil equivalent.
In July 2011, M&G - the largest producer of PET for packaging applications in the Americas – announced it would build a 2.2 billion pounds per year PET plant and accompanying 2.6 billion pounds per year PTA plant on the Gulf Coast. E.Vironment has been assisting M&G with site selection, due diligence and other strategic matters.
E.Vironment conducted an assessment of Calumet's Mechanical Integrity program in 2012.
E.Vironment has supported Calumet's process and occupational safety program in a number of assignments. Our team has conducted mechanical integrity program reviews, provided featured speakers to senior management and plant-wide safety stand downs and conducted a detailed assessment of their incident management program at eight of their plants. We also supported the Calumet in evaluating the pre-acquisition due diligence for the San Antonio refinery.
In 2011, Shell announced that they would be developing a gas-to-liquids (GTL) project in the United States. E.Vironment was retained to assist in developing and implementing a HSSE management system for the GTL Project, and to provide other assistance to the HSSE team.
We assisted Shell Canada on the divestiture of the Montreal Refining and Marketing system. This included the refinery, associated terminal assets and all associated retail locations. The project included not only an assessment of the assets and information but also the preparation of the HSE section of the Virtual data room.
We assisted Tesoro Logisitics in developing an overarching action plan and supporting policies, work processes and procedures to achieve Logistics' objective of delivering superior operations performance.

We have conducted EHS due diligence and collaborated on deal strategy for many of the firm's clients in a wide array of industries, on deals involving buying, selling and financing in the context of domestic and multinational private companies, publicly-traded companies and distressed situations.

We supported the EHS programs of the refining, pipeline, terminal and marketing company on assignments including transaction support, DOT trucking and pipeline auditing, and environmental auditing. Our transaction support included both pre-acquisition due diligence activities and establishing a post-acquisition balance sheet.
We managed the EHS due diligence on the Phillips66 Trainer refinery for Delta Airlines in 2012.
When RegScan purchased the CheckPoint™ auditing system in 2010, E.Vironment worked with RegScan to update Federal and State checklists, and to develop additional State and special coverage checklists.
E.Vironment provided Western with a full-time environmental manager for the El Paso refinery. The assignment lasted four months as a replacement manager was recruited and transitioned into the position. By providing a seasoned refinery environmental manager who was able to hit the ground running, the refinery significantly reduced its risk exposure.
